About us
In the summer of 2020 we discovered modern circus through friends who we saw training outside in the Kronenburger Park. It immediately caught our attention and we asked them if we could join them. After a few weeks of practicing outside, we decided to go with them to the place where they met with other circus practitioners from the Nijmegen area. Through our growing connection with this community, we discovered the professional side of modern circus. When, after several years of hard training, we had the opportunity to do our first performances, we enjoyed it so much that we finally decided to start our own circus entertainment company: Fire & Glow Entertainment. This way, we want to share circus arts from our own point of view.

Frencis
Doing adventurous things is something I have done since I was little, such as climbing trees with my brother and wandering through the forest. I also always liked playing 'tough' sports such as judo and soccer, and I have enjoyed dressing up in costume and doing make-up for as long as I can remember. Therefore, it is not surprising I quickly felt a connection with circus. With circus, all these different things come together; excitement, costumes, creativity and playfulness.
From the beginning I was mainly busy with the flow arts side of modern circus, where 'double staff' suited me best. From there I started learning swords, contact staff and buugeng as well. I still have to master the intricacies of poi, but luckily Evelien is our expert in that.

Evelien
My discovery of modern circus started with contact staff. I really liked the idea of flow, but I didn't make any quick progress with the staff. At school I used to be quite clumsy in gym class, so I always thought I was bad at sports, so I expected to be bad at contact staff too.
However, a friend had pois that I was allowed to borrow once. This tool clicked with me right away and I enthusiastically started practicing a lot. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to physically develop like that. By practising poi I found out I do have a sporty side! From the very beginning, poi has developed into my biggest circus-love.
This is also how I started fire-dancing and fire-breathing and the interest for doing things with fire and shows continues to grow. Modern circus has become an integral part of my life!
